Our dahlias are slowly but surely starting to bloom. This is one of our favorites so far this year.
Our onion tart. Super tasty. So much onions and cheese. Nicole made the crust for it too. I call it her “butter biscuit pie crust” and it’s been her best culinary creation to date. Good stuff but not to be consumed more than once a year.
We had a huge onion harvest a while back. Onions(and cucumbers but more on that later) are about the only things growing in the garden currently. We harvested all these and made an onion tart(next post). We’ve never had much luck with onions but this year I believe we worked the soil enough to give the roots room to grow. Either way we’re glad they’re doing so well because they are so tasty.
The Dahlias are starting to bloom in the backyard. They are pretty little plants and Nicole always likes to clip them for the house. Just a quick post about their awesomeness.

Tallulah, the garden mascot, loves the blueberry bush. Between her and the birds all the ripe blueberries are gone. We should have put a net over the plant but it’s too funny watching tallulah pull the berries off and eat them.
The first of our little yellow pear tomatoes. They are an heirloom variety that’s new to the garden. They should provide a good alternative to regular cherry tomatoes.
Our first cucumber of the season and it’s a weird one. I think because we’re having a real dry spell right now so it must be having some growing pains. We’re looking forward to a whole bunch more so we can make pickles!
Spring is in the air (sort of) and our two winter crops collard greens and broccoli are coming back to life. (Taken with instagram)
The winter garden. Right now the garden is pretty dormant with not too much going on. We’ve planted some collards, red leaf lettuce and broccoli. With it being so cold nothing is growing but the plants are still alive. Looking forward to some early cold weather harvest of lettuce and greens.
